About Gareth

Gareth, the creative director and founder of WriteSound Creative studied Advertising and Design at Newcastle College in the early 2000’s

In 2003 – when working part time in a petrol station, he heard a radio advert recruiting copywriters for radio adverts! Shortly after he started work at Galaxy 105-106 (which later became Capital Radio)

He worked in radio stations for the next 11 years, for Century Radio, Real Radio and Smooth Radio – before taking the plunge and ‘going it alone’ in 2014

Over the years there aren’t many sectors he hasn’t written and produced radio commercials for.

Colleges, Car Dealerships, Carpet Shops, Travel Agents, Bus Companies, Home Builders, Funeral Directors, Furniture Retailers, Cruise liners, Airports, Kitchen Suppliers, Museums, Holiday Parks…

If you’ve ever listened to the radio, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve heard an ad Gareth has had a hand (or voice) in!

Who do we work for?

Advertising agencies, media buyers, radio stations and direct businesses.

We partner up with a range of people and give every customer a unique service to fit their exact needs.

A business may approach us to create a radio campaign. We work with them from start to finish. From taking the brief to script ideas and production of the final campaign going to air.

With Advertising Agencies, we can get involved as much or little as required. We regularly link up with the creative team in an agency to put a radio/audio spin on their ideas – acting as their outsourced radio department.

Or, we can do the whole ‘radio thing’ for agencies from scratch. The brief to broadcast approach.

We also work with several independent Media Buying Agencies. In this case, we can work directly with their clients, taking a brief from scratch - or from an existing creative concept (in press, TV, online) – then create an effective radio / audio campaign to run and work alongside other media.

Access to these agencies and media buyers also allows us to recommend their services to businesses we work with. Purchasing of Media, creative, digital, OOH, TV – we can point customers in the direction of some trusted, experienced experts.

The Brief

This is a deep dive into your business to find out about you, your customers and what you deem to be a successful campaign. We then ask 3 questions…

Who do we want the ad to talk to?

More than one person means more than one ad. E.G – A family with 2 young kids, a single man working in the city, 50 something couples who like travelling

What do we want the listener to do after hearing the ad?

Go to a website, visit an event, make a phone call, be aware of something

Why should they do what you want them to do?

A real reason someone should use your product or service. Your brand is bigger, faster, cheaper – you may offer something a customer can’t get anywhere else.

The Ideas

Using the tailor made brief, we then work on concepts and write scripts to meet your objectives – in a way that will stand out on the radio and engage listeners.

At this point we will also cast the correct voice(s) for the commercial. There are hundreds to choose from (and we’ve worked with most!). Your voice needs to have the correct tone for your business and message – but it also should be distinctive. We will also cast the correct music for your commercial.

The seal of approval

Before production starts, scripts are cleared for broadcast by RadioCentre.

We carry the RadioCentre Trustmark reassuring listeners and advertisers they can have confidence in the messages we create and produce.

We agree to follow their code and have all commercials for special categories vetted and approved by the RadioCentre clearance team.

Bringing your message to life

Once the concept, script, voice and music are approved by the customer, the magic can really happen!

Working with hugely experienced and talented producers – we bring the script to life - always maintaining high standards, ensuring a great result every time.

The finished commercial can then be sent on to any station in the UK for broadcast.
